February 2008
We are proud to announce that The Australian Society of Magicians Inc. has become the largest magical society in the southern hemisphere with over 120 members. Two dozen new members were initiated in 2007 alone. Many factors have contributed to the revival, not least the work of a hard working committee, headed by Charles Gauci who is retiring after five years as President.

The very successful Centenary Convention last year provided a focus on magic and no doubt helped attract new members. High quality lectures and workshops, a vibrant club newsletter (Magic Makers) and an ever-growing library system (books, videos, CDs) have all contributed to the turnaround in fortunes.

Professional and semi-professional magicians along with enthusiastic amateurs populate the society. Memberships are granted to applicants showing a genuine interest in the craft and after a probationary period they are required to demonstrate their skills before other members. A wealth of knowledge is available from the established membership to help new applicants through this process. It's gratifying to see an average of fifty members turn up at every meeting.
